In January, 2007 after five years as a volunteer director on the Jewish National Fund / Keren Kayemet le'Israel International Board where he represents world Conservative Jewry (MERCAZ) , Alon Tal has been appointed Chair of its Land Development Authority (MAPAK) Committee. This is often considered to be the most influential of the JNF committees, overseeing a budget of some 300 million shekels and all JNF development projects: forestry, parks, stream restoration, reservoirs, research and agricultural support projects. It offers Alon opportunity to continue to help JNF in its institutional transition as it becomes a more transparent, efficient and environmentally responsible institution and to help Israel achieve its highest potential in protecting and preserving the environment -- impacting on all Israelis and their neighbors for generations to come.
